Howard Purcell: A Person of Vision
The 2025 Vision Expo East featured many notable speakers and presentations. NECO was well represented, with President & CEO Dr. Howard Purcell being awarded Prevent Blindness’ Person of Vision.
Vision Expo East hosts a broad range of optical and optometric leaders and experts over three days in Orlando. Exhibitors highlight the integration of healthcare, technology, and optical fashion into a patient’s lifestyle. There are also awards given in recognition of those dedicated to healthy vision and industry trendsetters.
One of this year’s featured experts is someone familiar to New England College of Optometry (NECO): President and CEO Howard Purcell, OD ’84, FAAO, who is serving as keynote speaker on two panels and moderator of another. He is also this year’s recipient of the prestigious Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Award.

“I am honored to be recognized by my peers in this way,” Dr. Purcell shared. “Likewise, I am excited to continue important conversations with leading experts from different areas of vision care as we explore the urgent work needed to move healthcare and education forward.”
The annual Person of Vision award is granted to an individual who works tirelessly to promote accessibility to vision care services. The Prevent Blindness Foundation selected Dr. Purcell for his career as an educator, patient advocate, and a driving force within the eye care industry.
