Boston, MA [December 12, 2024] New England College of Optometry (NECO), a leader in optometric education and innovation, is proud to announce a strategic partnership with Relativ to pilot a groundbreaking AI-driven simulation program designed to empower optometry students with critical salary negotiation skills as they prepare to enter the workforce.

The interactive tool, powered by Relativ’s advanced artificial intelligence technology, provides students with realistic, scenario-based training in salary negotiation. By simulating real-world conversations with employers, the tool helps students build confidence, refine their communication skills, and learn to advocate for fair compensation effectively.

The program emphasizes practical strategies tailored to the unique career pathways of optometrists, equipping NECO graduates with the expertise needed to navigate complex negotiations.

“At NECO, we are committed to preparing our students for success beyond the classroom,” said Dr. Howard Purcell, President & CEO of NECO. “Partnering with Relativ allows us to address an essential yet often overlooked aspect of career readiness: advocating for fair compensation. This initiative reflects our dedication to equipping students with the tools they need to thrive in their professional lives.”

Relativ, known for its innovative applications of artificial intelligence in professional development, has collaborated closely with NECO faculty and career services to customize the simulation for optometry students. The pilot program will roll out in early 2025, initially targeting graduating students who are entering the job market. Feedback from participants will be used to refine the tool for broader implementation in NECO’s curriculum.

“We’re excited to partner with NECO on this forward-thinking project,” said Relativ Co-Founder & CEO, Dr. Arjun Nagendran. “Our mission is to shape not only the minds of students but also their futures, creating equal opportunities by providing widespread access to AI. By tailoring our proprietary conversational AI engine to the specific needs of optometry students, we aim to make a meaningful impact on their career outcomes.”

This project also lays the groundwork for additional uses of AI-based simulations to enhance optometric education. NECO and Relativ are exploring applications that prepare students for challenges beyond salary discussions, such as navigating workplace conflicts, managing difficult patient interactions, and handling complex interprofessional dynamics. These scenarios are often difficult to replicate in classroom or clinical settings, making AI a powerful tool for experiential learning.
