NECO Welcomes 41 Residents to Campus
Did you know? Residents are not fourth-year students; they have already graduated from optometry school. They chose to do a one-year program that will give them advanced competency in an optometric subspecialty.
-Dr. Nicole Quinn
NECO hosted the annual John Carter Residency Conference. The event kicked the residency year which ran from July 1-June 30. This was the first of four conferences throughout the year offered to the newly graduated optometrists. NECO has 18-affiliated residency programs throughout New England that welcome 41 residents each year. Our paid programs include advanced training in community-based centers and VAs as well as other prestigious organizations.
On Friday, all 41 residents gathered on campus to meet each other, receive an orientation to NECO residencies and library resources, and participate in lectures and activities that will assist them throughout their residency year. For many residents this was their first visit to 424 Beacon Street Boston, as about half of the residents graduated from other optometry schools.
“We are excited to welcome the 2022-2023 residents to campus and are proud to partner with them during their residency year as they develop advanced competencies in their chosen area of specialty,” says Dr. Nicole Quinn, Professor of Optometry and Director of Residencies.
This year, residents were introduced to many NECO staff and faculty who are leading the optometric industry forward. Staff and faculty presented on topics from retinal vasospasms to professional interviewing.
As the 41 residents start this year across clinics, hospitals, and health centers; we look forward to seeing them next summer to learn about their experience and where this year has taken them.
“This year will undoubtedly be filled with professional and personal growth that will prepare them to be leaders in the profession,” Dr. Quinn shares. “Congratulations and welcome to NECO!”
