All Eyes on Pride 2024
June 2024 marks the 55th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall uprising in New York City, a pivotal event that sparked a global movement towards acceptance and celebration of diverse sexual and gender orientations. As NECO honors the progress of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA+) community, it’s crucial to reflect on the historical strides and ongoing efforts toward tolerance and inclusion, especially during these challenging times.
Pride month provides an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate our LGBTQIA+ students, peers, family members, and friends for their contributions and bravery in fostering a society where everyone can live authentically and free from discrimination.
NECO Celebrates PRIDE

To address the unique healthcare challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ patients, NECO is collaborating with PRIDE ODs—a national group dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive space within the optometry community—for their second annual Queer Symposium, titled “Seeing in Color: Celebrating LGBTQIA+ Identities in Eye Care.” The virtual symposium will be held on June 10, 11, and 26 at 8 PM via Zoom (3.00 CE credits: COPE pending). Learn more about the symposium.
Additionally, NECO faculty, staff, and students will march in Boston’s “Pride for the People” Festival and Parade on Saturday, June 8, starting in historic Copley Square. Space is limited: please register here.
