Fall Activities for NECO Students

NECO students in Boston’s Back Bay are well-positioned to explore the city and surrounding areas. This guide features fall activities for October and November, organized by full-day, half-day, and quick trips.

In this article, destinations labeled MBTA accessible can be reached by subway, commuter rail, or both.


How to Use the MBTA from NECO

  • Closest Stations: Hynes Convention Center on the MBTA Green Line (B, C, D branches) is a short walk from campus. Copley and Prudential stations are also nearby. Back Bay Station is within walking distance for Orange Line and commuter rail service.

  • Connections:

    • Park Street → Red Line

    • Government Center → Blue Line

    • North Station → Orange Line or commuter rail

    • Back Bay or Downtown Crossing → Orange Line

  • Commuter Rail: Longer trips (e.g., Salem, Topsfield) require the commuter rail. Salem is reached from North Station.


Full-Day Adventures

(All MBTA accessible, some require commuter rail.)

  • Day Trip to Salem – Historic sites and Salem Witch Trials museums, plus October festivals. (Newburyport/Rockport commuter rail from North Station)

  • Topsfield Fair (Oct. 3–13, 2025) – Agricultural fair with exhibitions, midway rides, food, and livestock shows. Weekend commuter rail + shuttle packages are typically offered (verify 2025 schedule).

  • Head of the Charles Regatta (Oct. 17–19, 2025) – International rowing competition on the Charles River and one of Boston’s largest fall events.
