Optometrist – PT/FT – Private Practice – New Windsor, NY

Highland Ophthalmology Associates is a full service eyecare private practice located in New Windsor, NY. We currently have 3 fellowship trained ophthalmologists, 2 optometrists, a full-time licensed optician and optical dispensary on premises. We have all the most advanced ophthalmic equipment available and are committed to providing both the latest technology and highest quality in patient care. We are a high volume medical and surgical practice, affiliated with multiple ASCs in our area.

We are looking for a Full-Time or Part-Time Optometrist to add to our team.

As a staff optometrist, you are required to have a valid NY State license to practice optometry prior to your hire date and at all times during your employment at Highland Ophthalmology. You agree that your employment as an optometrist will be limited to working in our practice only.

Optometrists are a critical part of our practice and participate in multiple aspects of patient care. These include:

1) Conduct Comprehensive Eye Exams for both well eye visits and medical visits. This involves taking detailed histories and recording past and present prescription medication, along with prescribing corrective lenses when required.

2) Accurately diagnose and treat various conditions such as glaucoma, dry eye disease, allergic conjunctivitis, keratoconus, and macular degeneration, while referring more complex pathology to our staff ophthalmologists or external ophthalmology sub-specialists as necessary.

3) Based on the patient’s Ocular Surface Dry Eye Evaluation (OSDE), Optometrists prescribe and initiate IPL treatments with our innovative pulsed light technology laser.

4) Participate in the Pre and Post-operative treatment and care of cataract patients alongside our Ophthalmologists.

5) Contact lens fittings – This includes both routine fittings as well as custom contact lens fittings for more complex patients, such as those having keratoconus and post corneal transplant patients. It will require becoming proficient with custom contact lenses such as scleral and hybrid lenses.

6) Emergency eye care – At Highland Ophthalmology, we strive to give our patients the highest level of care, accommodating them as soon as possible when they indicate that they have an eye issue of an urgent nature. Our Optometrists are the first line of defense in terms of quickly getting those patients into the office to assess what their issues may be and offer treatment. Our Ophthalmologists are always available as backup whenever these patients present with any complex issues that require the intervention of an MD at your discretion and request.

7) Perform testing using macular and optic nerve OCT, fundus and anterior segment photography, corneal topography, IOL-Master, pachymetry, autorefraction, and lensometry devices, among others.

8) Routinely assist Ophthalmologists with initial workups.

9) Assist in the training of our technicians as they complete their COA and COT certification. Training will lead to proficiency in refraction, IOP measurements, and thorough recording of complete medical histories.

10) Be a team player. Our team philosophy helps give our patients the highest level of care at Highland Ophthalmology Associates.
