New England College of Optometry is committed to supporting our current and former students by providing a variety of career resources, events, and services during their time at the College, as well as serving as a resource to our alumni. The Offices of Student Services and Alumni Relations maintain a series of workshops and networking events that connect current students with practicing alumni.

Career Choices & Optometric Resources 

  • Why Choose Optometry?
    Learn more about different modes of practice, career opportunities, job satisfaction, and quality of life for the profession.
  • True Stories: A booklet from ASCO (the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry) that details what doctors of optometry do and how they impact lives.
  • Optometry - A Career Guide: A booklet from ASCO that details the outlook for the profession, new frontiers in eye care, new modes of practice, modes of practice, income potential, and areas of emphasis.

    Alumni Relations sponsors several events throughout the year to support current students in the process of planning their careers. Learn more about career workshops and events such as:

  • National Optometric Conferences
    Students, alumni and corporate sponsors are invited to gather and network at receptions held in conjunction with Academy, SECO, Vision Expo and AOA’s Optometry’s Meeting. These receptions provide students and alumni with exposure to corporate professionals, as well as, regional reunions and networking opportunities.

    The Mass Society of Optometrists Student Chapter maintains a listing of open optometric positions and practices for sale submitted through our website. These listings are intended as a resource for NECO students, recent graduates, alumni, residents, faculty, and friends of the New England College of Optometry. 

Online Career Resources

  • Online Career Databases and Websites 
    The College maintains a listing of career databases and websites to assist students, recent graduates, and seasoned professionals with their job search. 
  • Canadian Optometric Job Resources
    The College provides listing of optometric associations, regulatory bodies and provincial associations for optometrists wishing to practice in Canada. 

Student Mentoring

  • Leadership Scholarships Program
    This program matches a NECO alumna/ae with a selected student to participate in College sponsored events and informal mentoring throughout a student's four years.  Participating NECO alumni establish a four-year leadership scholarship with a yearly stipend for a selected student and offers an enhanced education and career development opportunity for participants. 

Business Management 

  • Opthalmic Business and Management Policy Coursework
    Third year students take courses in ophthalmic business and management policy. Through these course, students gain the knowledge, skill, and background required to manage an ophthalmic business in all eye and health care delivery systems. Students develop formal business plans and create resumes to support their future careers.
