May the Fourth Year Be With You

It has been more than a month since I wrote Part 1 of the National Board Examinations and the stress from intensively studying for 3 months straight has finally faded away. So have, unfortunately, many of the ocular facts I crammed into my head in preparation for this exam.

End of OD1 Reflections

My classmates and I are just two weeks and 5 final exams away from completing our first year of optometry school! The last couple weeks of OD1 have kept us very busy. We’ve been going on our last vision screenings of the semester, taking our second clinical skills exams, and completing group projects!

A Glance of Vision Expo in the Melting Pot

When I began optometry school, I assumed my days would be filled with lectures, labs, or clinic. It didn’t even occur to me that I would have the opportunity to attend optometric conferences. In a sense, I envy those classmates with close ties to optometrists because they had that early exposure…

Vision Expo East in a New York Minute

The much-anticipated Vision Expo was this past weekend and it was the perfect opportunity to leave Boston to explore another city! We left for NYC after class on Friday, and the next morning, we found ourselves standing in the middle of Grand Central station, trying to navigate our way through the…

Clinical Gains

Spring break has finally come to an end and I’m ready for a fresh start. At this point being almost 2 years into optometry school, we are no longer learning brand new information. Snowy Vermont Rotation for the Winter

Transitioning from California back to the wintery east cost for my third rotation at White River Junction Veterans Affairs hospital in Vermont was easier than anticipated. As a born-and-raised Californian, I’ve had this really idealistic mindset that the mountains of the East Coast are an eternal…

Looking into Clinic IRL

A month into my new clinic site, the differences between practicing at a community health center and a private practice are now coming to light. When interview candidates ask why I chose NECO, I always refer to the clinical program. In a city as diverse and crowded as Boston, students have the opportunity…

Boards On the Brain

My final semester as an OD3 is in full swing and every day that passes brings me closer to two major events. The first, of course, is Part 1 of the National Board Examinations. Part 1 takes place in March of this semester, and although I dread having to write this exam, part of me wishes March would…

Adventures of Second Year

With 2017 in full swing, my spring semester at NECO has just begun. I have already attended numerous events sponsored by the student clubs. One of the most recent events was Casino Night held by the VOSH organization to help fundraise for their upcoming mission trip. NECO was transformed into a casino…
