Undergraduate degree – Mount Allison in New Brunswick, CA

Whenever I was asked “what do you want to be when you grow up?” My answer was decisive and confident: an optometrist. I looked forward to regular visits to my local eye clinic and searched for opportunities to learn more about the profession. I graduated from Mount Allison University just as the COVID-19 pandemic was beginning, and opted to work as an optometric assistant for one year before pursuing further education. This was a time of great change within the profession as optometrists adapted to many hurdles in order to take care of their patients. One of my mentors was Dr. Megan Bond, a NECO alumni (‘20), who I watched transition to practice during that tumultuous time. I admired her capability as a doctor which she attributed to her training at NECO. I followed in her footsteps to Boston (even living in her old apartment!) and couldn’t be happier with my decision. The rigorous didactic and clinical curriculum has fostered my passion for eye care and provided an excellent foundation for future practice.
