On Tuesday, May 2, 2017, New England College of Optometry, NECO, welcomed a delegation of leaders from Wenzhou Medical Center to the College. The group discussed current education initiatives, leadership programs, and research at Wenzhou, a close affiliate of the College. Long a leader in international optometry, NECO has been affiliated with Wenzhou for over 25 years. The dynamic partnership allows students and faculties at the two institutions opportunities to collaborate and share and knowledge through the joint MS/OD China degree programs, fourth year externship opportunities and international programs.
Representing Wenzhou were Ms. Juxia Tan, Director of Academic Affairs Office, School of Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Yimin Yuan, International Director, Department of Education, School of Ophthalmology and Optometry, Dr. Jian Ahang, Deputy Secretary-General, School of Ophthalmology and Optometry, and Dr. Hao Chen, Deputy Dean, School of Ophthalmology and Optometry.
The Wenzhou delegation met with representatives of the College including President Clifford Scott, Dr. Guang Ji Wang, Professor of Optometry, Dr. Bina Patel, Director of International Programs, Dr. Robert DiMartino, Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, and Dr. Meng Meng Xu, Assistant Professor of Clinical Optometry and coordinator of International Programs.
Following the visit to NECO, Drs. Yuan Yimin and Chen Hao will travel to the United Nations on Friday to hear Dr. Lau Fan, MS/OD ’02, and President of Wenzhou present a talk. Both Dr. Fan and Dr. Hao are alumni of the MD/OD program at New England College of Optometry. Dr. Yuan Yimin will also attend the ARVO (Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology) conference and present a poster on myopia.
