Class of 1966 Celebrates its 50th Reunion

During NECO’s Commencement Weekend, the College enjoyed hosting members of the Class of 1966 for their 50th Class Reunion.

Hugs, handshakes, smiles and laughter filled the air as Drs. Joel Abraham, Ted Edmonds, Jim Georgis, Paul Heyman and Marty Kaplan from NECO's Class of 1966 were reunited on Saturday, May 14th at NECO's Open House. For a few, it marked their first reunion in fifty years.  In addition to the Open House, the alumni joined President Scott to participate in the Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 15th at John Hancock Hall in Boston.

As honorary guests at Sunday's Commencement ceremony, the Class of 1966 alumni marched in the processional. At the ceremony, 123 degrees were conferred and 123 new doctors joined the NECO alumni community.

Reflecting on the reunion, Dr. Martin A. Kaplan, OD '66 noted, “I was really enlightened to see how well the College is training the optometrists of the future. The caliber and quantity of students shows that optometry has a viable future.”

Following the ceremony, the alumni attended the President's Luncheon. President Scott encouraged each alumni to reach out to prospective students to offer advice or information about the profession.
