On September 22 - 23, 2018, members of New England College of Optometry (NECO) Classes ending in 8, Class of ‘78, ‘88, ‘98 and ‘08, gathered to share nostalgic memories and renew friendships. Together, the alumni reconnected and reminisced about their time at the College.
The weekend festivities began with a tour of the Clinical Campus at 930 Commonwealth Avenue. Alumni travelled from the Beacon Street campus to Commonwealth Ave aboard the new student shuttle bus. Upon arrival, Tony Cavallerano, OD ’72, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement, greeted the familiar faces and provided tours of the new student pre-clinic facilities (the NECO Clinical Training Center), the patient clinic and optical center at the NECO Center for Eye Care.
On their return to campus, Margery Warren, Director of Alumni Relations, welcomed the group back to enjoy a Reunion Brunch with an exciting College update delivered by NECO President and fellow alumnus, Dr. Howard Purcell, OD ‘84. Students from the VOSH club also spoke about their upcoming 2019 medical mission trip to the Dominican Republic and led tours of 424 Beacon, highlighting renovations and encouraged attendees to explore the historic nooks and crannies of our beautiful campus. Additionally, alumni had the opportunity to browse old yearbooks and view remember when posters prompting smiles and happy memories.
In addition to the official festivities, members of the well-represented Class of 2008 enjoyed dinner at Hojoko, near Fenway Park on Saturday evening.
On Sunday, members of the reunion classes were given a complimentary registration to the five hour CE program by Drs. Carlo Pelino and Matt Garston on systemic disease and case challenges.
