NECO Student, Professor, and Codman Square Health Center Team Win Award for Vision Screening Project

Ms. Julie Alejandro, a third year optometry student, is part of the research team at the Codman Square Health Center that was awarded the 2018 Boston Children’s Hospital Community Partnership Fund (CPF). The CPF identifies and funds projects from community-based programs or organizations that seek to “improve the health and well-being of children and families” in specific neighborhoods of Boston.

NECO Selects Dr. Howard Purcell As Next President

The New England College of Optometry Board of Trustees has named Howard Purcell, OD ’84, FAAO, Diplomate, as the thirteenth President and CEO of the College. Dr. Purcell was selected following a national search to succeed Clifford Scott, OD, MPH, who will be stepping down after serving for nine years. He will take office on July 2, 2018.

Announcing a New Name for New England Eye and New Facilities at Commonwealth Location

March 28, 2017 We are pleased to announce that New England Eye, the patient care subsidiary and clinical affiliate of the New England College of Optometry, has officially changed its name to the New England College of Optometry (NECO) Center for Eye Care. This current change in name will apply to our comprehensive eye care centers at the Commonwealth and Roslindale locations.

NECO Remembers Dr. Richard Wallingford Jr., OD ‘75

It is with great sadness that New England College of Optometry notes the passing of alumni Dr. Richard Wallingford Jr., OD ’75. Dr. Wallingford was a past President of the American Optometric Association, serving as 84th President from 2005-2006.

New England College of Optometry Breaks Ground on New Clinical Campus

At the end of December, construction began on our new clinical campus at 930 Commonwealth Avenue. Dr. Robert DiMartino, Academic Dean, New England College of Optometry, explains, “It will be comprised of three parts – a new flagship optometric clinic and optical dispensary, a clinical specialty service that includes rehabilitative vision care and clinical research, and a state-of-the-art student clinical training facility.”
