Fourth year optometry students attend Alcon Academy for Eye Care Excellence Program
This fall, thirteen fourth year optometry students were selected to represent New England College of Optometry, NECO, while attending the Alcon Academy for Eye Care Excellence program in Fort Worth, Texas.
The program, in the 30th year, was “created to provide eye care professionals access to advanced clinical, business and management strategies and techniques to ensure the highest standard of patient care.”
Developed by clinicians and industry leaders to educate eye care professionals from a variety of practice settings as various stages of their career, the program allows participants to attend educational lectures on topics such as the Ocular Surface, New Technologies, Contact Lens Care Science, Advanced Contact Lens Surfaces, Multifocal, Toric, Color, Ocular Nutrition, and Advanced Technology IOLs.
The NECO contingent is split into two groups, each traveling to Texas from their current fourth year clinical rotation site this October. Alcon graciously provided all travel and accommodations for the attendees.
The first group of OD4 students included Navjit Sodhi, Kayla Spangenberg, Michael Cianca, Thu Nguyen, Francesca Sefton, Douglas Adams, and Kelsey Jordan and attended from October 13-15, 2016. The students participated in hands-on workshops and wet lab on contact lenses and cataract procedures. The students were also given a tour of the Alcon Campus, including manufacturing facilities. The second group of students will attend the program on Oct 27-29, 2016. This group includes Amanda Belleville, Jonathan Garcia, Sara Hanna, Matthew Philibin, Julia Pierce, and Andrew Rabkin.
