Barbara L. Horn, O.D., a member of the American Optometric Association Board of Trustees, will address the faculty, students and clinical system staff on November 20, 2014 at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts between 7:30 am and 8:00 pm.
Dr. Horn, of Washington, Michigan, will update optometrists at NECO on activities of the approximately 36,000-member national organization and discuss issues concerning the delivery of primary eye care services to people throughout the country. She will also meet with faculty and students and tour the NECO clinical facilities.
Barbara L. Horn, O.D., was elected to the American Optometric Association Board of in June 2011 and re-elected at the 117th Annual AOA Congress & 44th Annual AOSA Conference: Optometry’s Meeting® in June 2014.
As a member of the AOA Board, Dr. Horn is a member of the AOA Constitution and Bylaws and Finance Committees. She also serves as board liaison to the AOA Commission on Paraoptometric Certification and the Paraoptometric Resource Center. Her board liaison assignments also include affiliate associations in Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont, as well as MCPHS University School of Optometry, New England College of Optometry and State University of New York, State College of Optometry.
Prior to her election to the Board, Dr. Horn served the AOA by volunteering her time as chair of the Clinical & Practice Advancement Executive Committee, Medical Eye Care Committee, and Membership Group. She has also participated in numerous other committees and project teams including the Program Planning Committee, Public Health Disease Prevention Committee, and the Needs/Technology Project Team.
Dr. Horn is a graduate of the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University and a past president of the Michigan Optometric Association (MOA).
In 2011, she was the MOA’s Optometrist of the Year. Dr. Horn also received the AOA’s Young Optometrist of the Year award in 2006 and the MOA’s Young Optometrist of the Year award in 2005.
Dr. Horn has a private practice, ExpertEyes, in Washington, MI.
She has two children with her husband, Michael Weisgerber, O.D., Brooke and Mick and two step children, Alexa and Drew.
