For 125 years, New England College of Optometry has been educating individuals and leading the way towards optometric innovations. Throughout our history, as the role of the optometrist has continued to evolve, as well as the definition of optometry, NECO has remained flexible in our response. Throughout this time, NECO has prepared leaders in the field, addressing changes in technology, and finding opportunities for change and growth.
Over the last hundred years, optometry has changed from a profession of selling eyeglasses to one of understanding about vision and health, eye health and eye disease. The College has changed along with it. From the front rooms of August Klein's home on Rutland Street to the gleaming rotunda on Beacon Street, we have educated thousands of men and women to become fine eye care providers and leaders of our profession. Today, as we celebrate the achievements of our last century, we eagerly await the promise of the next.
Twenty-five years later, we continue to acknowlege and adapt to the changes in optometry, technology, healthcare, and practice.
