Residency & Fellowship Information
The College offers several different one-year post-doctoral residency programs. These programs are for the graduate optometrist who desires more advanced training in clinical care.
Residency programs are offered in accordance with the accreditation guidelines of the American Optometric Association (AOA) Accreditation Council on Optometric Education. Areas of emphasis include:
- Ocular Disease
- Primary Eye Care
- Primary Eye Care/Geriatrics
- Primary Eye Care/Ocular Disease
- Primary Eye Care/Low Vision
- Community Health Optometry
- Cornea and Contact Lenses
- Pediatric Optometry

A total of twenty nine (29) residency positions are in place in 2010-11. Applicants for residency positions should be graduates of an accredited school or college of optometry, have excellent scholastic records, strong clinical performance and an interest in clinical education, research, or advanced patient care. Mission Statement: The mission of The New England College of Optometry (NECO) is to serve the optometric needs of the public by educating optometrists to the highest level of proficiency, integrity and professionalism. In keeping with this mission, the College offers several different one year post-graduate residency programs to qualified optometrists who desire more advanced training in clinical care. Each residency is based in Boston or at one of several facilities around the New England area, and involves direct patient care supplemented by clinical instruction and scholarly activities including clinical research. All programs are structured in accordance with the accreditation guidelines of the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE). Eligibility Statement: In order to be eligible to enter a NECO optometric residency program, residency candidates must be graduates of a school or college of optometry accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education. Application Process: Interested candidates should obtain information and application materials from the Optometric Residency Matching Service (ORMS) Website at: www.orms.org or contact the program supervisors at each site. All 2010-11 residents will be placed through the ORMS. The application deadline for all programs is February 1, 2010. Candidates will be notified of placement in early March.
