Student Organizations

NECO offers students the opportunity to participate in diverse student organizations.

American Academy of Optometry (AAO)

The AAO works to foster research and dissemination of knowledge in vision sciences. The student branch fosters membership and fellowship in the Academy and promotes optometric research. Learn more about AAO at NECO.

American Optometric Student Association (AOSA)

AOSA is the student branch of the American Optometric Association, the AOA. All students are guaranteed membership in AOSA through the student activity fee. A student trustee represents the College at AOSA functions such as Optometry’s Meeting, an annual AOA conference.  Learn more about AOSA at NECO.

Beta Sigma Kappa (BSK)

Beta Sigma Kappa is an international optometric honor fraternity dedicated to scientific and clinical excellence as well as high moral standards in the optometric profession. Members volunteer in the community, as well as providing review sessions and mock proficiencies for other students.  Learn more about BSK at NECO.

College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD)

COVD is an organization that advocates comprehensive vision care emphasizing developmental and behavioral approaches to patient care through presentations and speakers. The student branch of COVD sponsors events that promote education about vision care and vision therapy. Learn more about COVD at NECO.

Contact Lens Society (CLS)

The Contact Lens Society CLS at NECO exists to enhance student interest and knowledge of contact lens care and management in efforts to improve patient care. The Contact Lens Society focuses on support and education around contact lenses.  Learn more about the Contact Lens Society at NECO.

Lions Club

The student branch of the Lions Club works to support the local community by providing eye and general health screenings through the Lions Eye Mobile community outreach project, providing book-binding services to the National Braille Press, giving bilingual presentations to senior centers and donating glasses to VOSH and local homeless shelters.  Learn more about the Lions Club at NECO.

Massachusetts Society of Optometrists (MSO)

Members of the MSO advocate for legislation in favor of the profession. Students participate in advocacy events to support the profession.  Learn more about the MSO at NECO.

Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA)

At NECO, members of this club provide tutoring and support for other students taking a Neuroanatomy course as well as bringing speakers to the college to share their experiences. Learn more about NORA at NECO.

National Optometric Student Association (NOSA)

The National Optometric Association promotes the delivery of vision care to underserved communities through consumer education, legislative advocacy, and minority recruitment and retention.  Learn more about NOSA at NECO.

Public Health Club (PHC)

The Public Health Club (PHC) helps bring awareness to the student body on topics outside of optometry, whether that be related to the specific workings of government or other areas of healthcare.  Learn more about the Public Health Club at NECO.

Private Practice Club (PPC)

The Private Practice Club (PPC) was established with the goals of providing business management education and support for students interested in the career option of private practice.  Learn more about the Private Practice Club at NECO.

Performance Vision Club (PVC)

The Performance Vision Club strives to improve visual function of patients, inform the public of preventative eye safety measures, and promote professional standards among members and the general public.  Learn more about the Performance Vision Club at NECO.

Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH)

As NECO’s largest student organization, the student branch of VOSH seeks is to deliver eye care to those who lack access to such services, both locally and abroad.  Learn more about VOSH at NECO.

Spanish Club

A new club at NECO, the Spanish Club was started by students in order to teach their classmates essential language to be used in Spanish eye exams.
