Health, Wellness, and Immunizations

The Office of Student Services both provides resources and advice for health insurance, counseling, and other wellness options. When outside services are needed, the office can make referrals to outside clinics and practitioners. All students at the College are required to have health insurance and current immunizations.

Health Insurance

All NECO students must have health insurance. This can be provided through the college or the student may elect to keep their own health insurance as long as it is comparable. If students are in need of a health care provider, two local options include the Fenway Health Center and Harvard Vanguard.

Immunization Information

All immunizations must be completed before entry into the College with the Immunization Form. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts under the College Immunization Law requires all students in the health sciences to provide the College with proof of immunity against the following:

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
You must have documentation of 2 doses of the vaccine or titer blood tests proving immunity to all three.
  • Hepatitis B
You must have documentation showing 3 dose series of the vaccine have been administered (no exceptions), or a titer blood test proving immunity (Please note, Canada often uses a 2-dose Hep B series. All Canadian students MUST have a 3rd dose done, or have a titer blood test proving immunity).
  • Varicella (chicken pox)
You must have documentation showing 2 doses of the vaccine or titer blood test showing immunity. A doctor’s written statement of having had the disease is not acceptable proof.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Acellular Pertussis (Tdap)
You must have documentation showing 1 dose of Tdap. The latest version of adult Tdap is only accepted; older versions are not accepted. Immunization must have been done within the last 10 years.
  • TB Skin Test (PPD skin test only)
An annual Mantoux test for tuberculosis is required by the College. It must be done AFTER June 1st.

Counseling Services are available to students to ease transitions, reduce stress, and to cope with unexpected difficulties. Students are encouraged to proactively seek assistance when difficulties arise through the Office of Student Services.

Students may also contact Dr. Brad Spickard or Dr. Laura Greve, both practitioners within walking distance of the College. Contact information:
