New England College of Optometry welcomed 119 four-year OD students on September 2, 2015
On Wednesday, September 2, 2015, New England College of Optometry welcomed one hundred and nineteen students as the Class of 2019 for the four-year OD program. The incoming students hail from 24 states and 6 Canadian Provinces. Students registered for classes on Wednesday and immediately dove into their studies on Thursday.
During a welcome meeting, President Clifford Scott noted, “We chose you not only because you have done well in school and scored well on tests, but because we want doctors who will be compassionate and nice, and we saw that in all of you. At NECO, we treat you like doctors-in-training. Use the next four years to craft your future profession for yourself. You are beginning to build your own career.”
Dr. Barry Fisch, Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, explained, “This will be a difficult period of time over the next four years, but you have the chance to participate in one of the greatest professions. You have the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives.”
Dr. William Gleason, President of the Alumni Association welcomed the class and urged them to become a part of the group even before graduation. “The Alumni Association is involved in activities around the school, from sponsoring the white coat ceremony during your second year to producing seminars that help you think about your future after graduation,” he explained. “As you enter your fourth year, alumni are available to review your applications for residencies as well as your CV. We are here to help.”
