Dr. Douglas Hoffman, President Scott, and Board member Dr. Jim Hunt join DotHouse CEO Walter Ramos, Congressman Joseph Kennedy II, and State Senator Linda Dorcene Forry celebrate DotHouse Health
For many decades, the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center has served the health and recreation needs of the Dorchester community. Offering health services which include medical care, dentistry, nutrition, physical therapy and optometry, as well as financial advising and after-school care, the center has been a cornerstone of the local community. To better reflect the work being done at the center, DHMC has renamed itself DotHouse Health. The health clinic celebrated this change in name with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, April 28, 2015.
New England College of Optometry has had a 40-year relationship with the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center. It was one of the first clinics connected to the College and remains one of our strongest affiliation, helping to train optometry students and residents each year in the eye clinic. Dr. Douglas Hoffman, Director of Residencies at New England College of Optometry, has worked at DotHouse Health over 30 years, leading the eye care clinic and training hundreds of second, third, and fourth-year NECO students and residents through his tenure. He was on hand at the ribbon-cutting ceremony with NECO President Clifford Scott and Board member Dr. James Hunt.
Before the ceremony began, Drs. Scott and Hoffman had a chance to talk with DotHouse CEO Walter Ramos, Congressman Joseph Kennedy II, State Senator Linda Dorcene Forry, and Dr. Hunt about the eye care clinic. When asked if Dr. Hoffman might earn more money working in a private practice, he replied, “Money is not everything in job satisfaction.” Congressman Kennedy was so impacted by this statement he shared Dr. Hoffman’s sentiments during his keynote address. He noted the loyalty and compassion of Dr. Hoffman as an exemplar of the staff who embody the commitment to eye health and community work done at DotHouse Health and throughout the New England College of Optometry. Congratulations to Dr. Hoffman for representing the College so well. We are fortunate to highlight him as part of our excellent faculty.
