Dr. Lu Fan, MS/OD ‘02, recently spoke at the United Nations in New York on May 5, 2017. The speech was part of United Nations Academic Impact Program (UNAIP). Dr. Lu Fan is the current president of Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) and a graduate of the MS/OD program at New England College of Optometry.

Dr. Fan presented to the UNAIP on the progress of China's Medical Care in the past 20 years and on Medical Education in China, with an emphasis on Wenzhou Medical University's distinctive approach. 

In March of this year, WMU became an official member of the UNAIP. The United Nations Academic Impact Program is a global initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations. They seek to further the realization of the purposes and mandate of the organization through activities and research in a shared culture of intellectual social responsibility. Dr. Fan was presented a certificate of recognition for her work from the UNAIP.

New England College of Optometry has partnered with Wenzhou for over 30 years. This relationship includes a joint degree program between WMU and NECO called the MS/OD program.  This curriculum joins NECO’s Advanced Optometry Degree Program (AODP) with a Master of Science degree with join clinical externships in Boston and at Wenzhou Medical University.
