New England College of Optometry Library

Levels of Access

This page explains the level of access designations that accompany each electronic journal and some other resources on the Library web site. For information on accessing resources from off campus, please see the Off-campus Access page.

Some of the Library's resources have licensing restrictions regarding where or how they can be accessed. Individual levels of access are described below.

[Access from College workstations only]

These resources can be accessed from anywhere on the Beacon Street campus (including the library) and at New England Eye Commonwealth. However, licensing agreements for these resources do not allow off-campus use.

[Free access to older issues]

These resources have full-text that is freely available (on or off-campus) to the public after an embargo period has passed, ranging anywhere from three months to two years.

[Free to all]

As the name implies, these resources are freely available to everyone, regardless of location or affiliation.

[Off-campus access]

By logging in to the off-campus service, your non-College computer appears to the resource provider as if it is on the College network. This allows you to access Library resources that would otherwise be off-limits. Detailed instructions for logging in can be found on the Off-campus Access page.

[Password required]

These resources require the use of a password (which can only be issued to current students, faculty and staff) for access, on or off-campus. Please contact us at 617-587-5589 or library@neco.edu for more information.
