Books, Photocopies and Audiovisual Materials
Loan period: 2 hours, in or out of the Library (can be renewed).
A maximum of 2 books can be checked out one hour before the Library closes and are due one hour after the Library opens the next day. No renewals. During exam periods, students can sign up during the day to check out materials overnight. Fine: $2 / hour / item, up to $10 / day, up to a maximum of $50.
Loan period: reserves: 2 hours (can be renewed); laptops, iPads, and calculators: 4 hours (can be renewed). Laptops and iPads must remain in the building at all times. Fine: $2 / hour / item, up to $10 / day, up to a maximum of $50. Onsite use only: skulls, BIOs (faculty excepted), trial lens sets and vision therapy kits.
Loan period: 1 week (can be renewed twice). Overdue: 3-day grace period beyond due date before fine is charged. Fine: $.50 / day / item, up to a maximum of $25.
National Boards Study Materials
Loan period: 2 days (can be renewed twice). Overdue: no grace period. Fine: $.50 / day / item, up to a maximum of $25.
Loan period: 1 week (can be renewed twice). Overdue: no grace period. Fine: $.50 / day /item, up to a maximum of $25.
Reference materials and scholarly print journals are in-library use only.
If an item is lost or damaged, you are responsible for the replacement cost of the item plus a $15 processing fee.
Renewals and Holds
Renewing an Item
Reserve items may be renewed in person or by telephone at 617-587-5589 at or before the time the item is due. Renewal may not be allowed if another person is on the waiting list. Regular circulating materials may also be renewed in person or by telephone at 617-587-5589. Renewal may not be allowed if another person has placed a hold on the title.
Placing a Hold on an Item
A hold may be placed on a regular circulating item in person or by telephone at 617-587-5589 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org. A waiting list is maintained at the circulation desk for reserve items. Your name must be added in person, and you must be on the first floor of the Library when your name comes up on the list.
Get a Book or Article from Another Library
Having trouble finding the books or journal articles you need? Through Interlibrary Loan (ILL), you can borrow articles and titles from other libraries. ILL services are available to students, faculty, staff, and residents. Request an item through ILL.
