Dr. Dunphy received his undergraduate degree from Bates College in 1982 and his O.D. degree from New England College of Optometry in 1986.
He completed his residency training in Hospital-Based Optometry at The VA Medical Center Brockton/West Roxbury Massachusetts.
He currently provides ophthalmic diagnostic imaging for the retina, cornea and glaucoma services of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Jamaica Plain Campus of the VA Boston Healthcare System. He also serves as a staff optometrist at the Brockton Campus of the VA Boston Healthcare System where he has responsibility for training 2nd, 3rd and 4th year optometry interns and residents in optometry. He is also the staff optometrist for the Gillette Corporation at their World Shaving Headquarters in Boston.
Dr. Dunphy has previously served as a staff Optometrist for The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and as Eye Clinic director at several inner city Health Centers in Boston. He has also served as a consultant to industry in the ophthalmic imaging field.
He is an Affiliated Clinical Professor at The New England College of Optometry. He is the Instructor of Record for the course Principles and Practice of Diagnostic Ocular Imaging given to third-year students at the New England College of Optometry where he also delivers invited lectures on ocular disease and diagnostic imaging.
Dr. Dunphy has published and lectured nationally and internationally on ocular disease, ocular trauma and clinical applications and interpretation of diagnostic imaging. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
