On October 12, 2012, NECO held its third Profiles in Vision gala at the Boston Fairmont Copley Hotel, benefitting student scholarships and New England Eye’s vision services for the underserved throughout the Commonwealth. Susan Wornick, WCVB-TV news anchor, hosted the evening’s festivities. With over 175 guests in attendance, Dr. Clifford Scott awarded Presidential Medals honoring the humanitarian efforts of Rick Guidotti, founder of Positive Exposure, and Peter Ash, founder of Under the Same Sun.
Rick Guidotti is a renowned international fashion photographer. After observing the dramatic change in self-image when conducting photo shoots of several girls with albinism, Guidotti founded the non-profit organization Positive Exposure, which seeks to challenge the stigma associated with difference by photo documenting the beauty and richness of genetic diversity.
Peter Ash is CEO and founder of Under the Same Sun, an international Non-Government Organization with offices in Vancouver, Canada and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. As a person with albinism, Mr. Ash was inspired to start Under the Same Sun upon learning that people with albinism in Tanzania were being butchered due to their hereditary condition. Ash, who had previously spent a decade in global finance, established the organization with a mission to promote, via advocacy and education, the well-being of individuals who are often marginalized and misunderstood.
The evening was a great success, netting approximately $50,000 for student scholarships and New England Eye’s community eye care initiatives.
