Meet the Office of Institutional Advancement 

Nancy Broude – Vice President of Institutional Advancement

Nancy brings to this position 18 years of fundraising experience in education and health care settings, as well as 12 years in administrative roles in higher education.  She is dedicated to efforts that provide access to healthcare to underserved populations. In addition to overseeing all fundraising efforts for the College and NEE, Nancy oversees alumni relations and the annual report. Away from the College, Nancy is an avid European traveler and an enthusiast of classical music.



Tony Cavallerano, OD – Director of Professional Relations

Dr. Cavallerano is director of training programs for the teleretinal imaging initiative at the VA Boston Healthcare System and a faculty member at NECO. With more than 30 years affiliation with NECO and a deep understanding of vision care and the optometric industry, he represents the College at conferences and alumni gatherings nationwide. He also works with the Alumni Association to make sure their voice is represented at the College.

As a part of the Institutional Advancement team, Mary combines her experience in the for-profit and nonprofit sectors to manage and coordinate the annual appeal process as well as special fundraising initiatives. Additionally, Mary’s background and experience in the financial services industry provides the skills and expertise necessary to create and analyze financial reports for the team.  Mary also participates in the planning and coordinating of special events.



Jo Ann Gershaw – Director of Alumni Affairs and College Events

Jo Ann has worked at the College in many roles for over 8 years. She is responsible for the planning and implementation of programs and projects that strategically engage alumni with the College and that provide tangible benefits to alumni and students. She works with the Alumni Board to establish and build relationships with alumni - locally, regionally, nationally and internationally; oversees communication with alumni via email, the alumni web pages, social media and individual visits.  She also coordinates all College community-wide events.



Sally Hayes

Sally Hayes joined NECO in October 2011 and has quickly become a valued member of the team. In her role, she assists with alumni events, email communications and the alumni e-newsletters, website updates, and the alumni Facebook group.  Her prior experience includes working at a social service agency in Hartford, CT where she started as an AmeriCorps Member, then directed an after-school tutoring program and assisted with development and communication.  Outside of NECO, Sally tutors English as a Second Language and enjoys walking her dog in the Boston Common.
